  • The Urban League of London London, Ontario Canada (map)

DUE TO THE PROVINCIAL ELECTION OCCURRING THE SAME DAY, THIS EVENT HAS BEEN POSTPONED. PLEASE CHECK BACK SOON.

London, Ontario, like many regions, has been home to innovative individuals who have contributed to various fields. While historically, Black inventors have faced numerous challenges due to systemic barriers, there are notable figures who have made significant impacts. One such individual is Alfred Lafferty, a Black inventor from London, Ontario, who was granted a patent in the early 20th century for a novel type of automatic stove damper—a device used to regulate the airflow in a stove, thereby controlling the heat and improving energy efficiency. Lafferty's invention was a testament to the ingenuity and resilience of Black inventors, who often had to overcome significant obstacles to bring their ideas to fruition. His work not only contributed to technological advancements but also inspired future generations of Black inventors in Canada and beyond.

Facilitated by the CEO of W.E.A.N. Community Centre, an Urban League group member, join us to explore Black excellence in London, ON!

Open to non-League members. Pre-registration is not required - if the event shows sold out, please feel free to attend still.
