2024 Green Award Winners Announced

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Urban League of London is pleased to announce the winners of our Green Awards! These annual awards recognize exceptional individuals and outstanding developments in the City of London. Past winners include Jane Bigelow, Todd Sleeper, Wood St. Food Forest and Covent Garden Market.

Since 1975 the Green Umbrella Award has recognized an individual, or occasionally an organization, demonstrating outstanding community citizenship and leadership in the city of London, as evidenced by a significant body of work. This year’s winner is Antler River Rally.

The Urban League started giving Green Brick awards in 1984 to recognize an outstanding built form project in the city, usually where the development has engaged members of the community at both the planning and development stages of the project. This year, the Green Brick was not awarded.

Award winners were honoured at the Urban League’s 2024 Annual General Meeting on June 18, 2024.

The Urban League is an umbrella organization representing more than 40 neighbourhood and community associations in London. Strong and connected communities are the building blocks of a vital, equitable and sustainable city. For over 50 years the Urban League has been working to engage and inform Londoners to improve and connect our city.

ABOUT THE WINNERS

Green Umbrella - Antler River Rally

Founded in 2012, by Tom Cull and Miriam Love, Antler River Rally is a volunteer group that organizes monthly clean-ups of Deshkan Ziibi/Thames River within the City of London.

ARR believes that a healthy river is the lifeblood of a strong community.  We strive to find the most direct way to help Londoners get involved in protecting our waterways and environmentally significant areas. We target one area of the river per rally.  ARR recognizes the many groups and individuals working towards ecological justice and environmental stewardship and seeks to build greater collaborative efforts with these initiatives.

ARR acknowledges that Indigenous peoples and Nations of this area are the original, contemporary, and future land and water protectors. We strive to conduct our work in the spirit of gratitude and reciprocity. We respect the land, water, and all the life forms who call these places home.
